Paper – The fructose survival hypothesis for obesity

It is finally out! For those of you who want to read the deep science behind the fructose story, the overall fructose survival hypothesis has now been published in the Royal Society of Medicine’s journal, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences.  It can be accessed for free at   The paper describes the science of how fructose triggers a survival switch (see figure).  All is good if this is transient, but if it is persistent, it can lead to obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and neurological issues, including behavioral disorders and dementia.

A story on the paper in the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus News can be read here.
